Chinese Wang Ba Torture

That’s it; I’ve had it up to my ass with spending every spare moment running around trying to find a *censored* wang ba that’ll let me use their usb port.  People, I’ve already posted a photo of the Great Clown Paraphanalia factory–you have nothing left to hide, for Shibble’s sake.

It’s been the same in every city in Hebei; slogging from wang ba to *censored* wang ba, only to get the wave-off and a resounding, “May yo!”

Right now I’m in a usbless wang ba (the second one this evening) in Fengrun.  I don’t know where I’m at in Fengrun; I finally gave up walking and hopped a cab, which took me down enough side streets and jenky-ass alleys to ensure my whereabouts are unknown, even to me.  I cannot pronounce the name of my hotel, and even if I could, I’m sure I’d still get the tones wrong.  Should be a mini adventure finding my way back tonight.

We’re now five days away from Shanhaiguan; we saw the first sign today proclaiming it’s a mere 122k away (and only 115 after we’d finished today).  Ya’ll are gonna have yer work cut out for ya when we finish; Shibble knows how many photos and videos you’ll have to catch up on.  Grrrrrr…

James. I hope that there’s HEAPS of pics and vids to wade through. After all, if I don’t have them to look at during the day I’ll have to…..EEEEEEK……. do some work! I’m so glad the company policy on internet use allows me ‘reasonable personal use’ for surfing on company time.

Hmmm, after reading your reply on the last post, I guess I could always pop over to the TTYC and check out some old friends. Is sidelines still there, I know you two were such good friends lol

    Luv ya,

Well, it’s a bit easier for me in China – being Chinese and speaking 2 dialects and all. I can blend in the big cities – and unless I’m backpacking, I don’t attract the stares in the sticks. (Excepting meal time, because I’m left handed).

I know you probably don’t want to spend extra dollars – but one thing you might try is getting your photos transferred from camera to CD and then uploading them from the CD rom. Most camera shops should be able to help with that. At least they did in the south.

Good luck on the rest of the trip! I’m only sorry I found this so late in the game.

    James, Ig

Knowing your fondness for peas and all things pea-flavoured, I immediately thought of you when I tread this article on an Australian news site this morning.
    ————————————————
AFTER introducing the world to new soda flavors like fish taco and salmon, Seattle specialty beverage maker Jones Soda Co. is offering a new flavor: Green pea.

Green pea, along with other unusual sodas such as turkey and gravy, dinner roll, sweet potato and antacid flavor, will be part of the company’s $10 to $15 ($A13 to $20) “holiday pack” of bottled drinks available nationwide.

Jones Soda chief executive Peter van Stolk , who admitted he cannot stomach the drinks, said the collection of strange-flavored sodas usually sold out quickly.

Past flavors included broccoli casserole, corn on the cob and brussel sprout.

“Why people buy it is beyond me. I can’t drink a bottle of this stuff,” Mr van Stolk said.

Jones Soda, which sells traditional sodas alongside more exotic flavors like fufu berry and green apple, first introduced the holiday soda pack in 2003.

James…looking forward to all the pics. I will look at them with Gracie (you know…the smart 3 soon to be 4 year old) and I am sure she will be able to explain where they were taken. I would love for you guys to explain them all first hand at some point.
Looking forward to having the Ig Monster home and meeting you!

    Hugs and prayers.

Shaggy; I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get the room at Gubeikou or Simatai videos up. :~(
Actually, Sidelines and I were friends! I even flew with her to the nyc pissup! Haven’t heard from her in years though…

Terence; I’m tres envious!  If I’d do anything different in regard to this trip, it would be learning Mandarin before I left, and not just the essentials, like, “I want a beer.”  ;~)

People stared at you for being a lefty?  Is it considered freakish or unlucky or something?

    Shaggy; that’s just unshibbley!  GACK!

    Bean; right back atchya chica!
